On Monday 26/4/04 we met up for a drive day to celebrate the latest public
holiday. There were 4 206's who turned up on the day. The participants
were: MMC in his 2000 Gti, Leigh in his Gti 180, Tim in his black Gti and
me in my Diablo Red Gti. We also had Jude in his 306 Gti 6 and Quentin in
his Citroen Xsara VTS. MMC only stopped by to say hi and catch up with
everyone. The rest of us headed east towards the hills for a run up Gorge
Road.
Being a public holiday the Police were out in force on the roads. We waved
as we rolled past them sitting right on the speed limit. We stopped briefly
at Cudlee Creek to re-group and then headed through Lobethal and back
through Basket Range on our way to our lunch stop at Hahndorf. The roads
there are a brilliant combination of 2nd & 3rd gear corners with a few
hairpins thrown in for good measure. After a schnitzel we headed south via
Mt Barker, Flaxley, Macclesfield, Kangarilla and onto our final stop of
Willunga.
There we did a few runs up and down Old Willunga Hill Road which is one of
the best 4k's of roads you will find anywhere! Took a few photos of the
cars as a group and then headed back up into the city.
All up was a brilliant day with good weather, good food, and importantly
great roads! All up covered just under 300K from memory.
Until next time
