The following
instructions should help you replace the licence plate lights on your car.
All my instructions and illustrations are based on an Apr 2000 build 206 GTi. To the best of my knowledge, these instructions are still current for all subsequent models, including the current GTi & the GTi180.
The globes are rated at 12V 5W, however they are designed by Peugeot to be replaced as an assembly and thus are very hard to replace without breaking the holder they are in. Peugeot can sell you the whole assembly for approx AU$6.00, and the part number is PE-6340A3. If you do manage to seperate the lens from the holder then good luck to you, as the globe itself has got to be cheaper than the whole thing.

1. We’ll start by gaining access to the back of the hatch. The light assembly is actually removed from the outside of the car, but it is clipped in from inside the car.

2. The panel is held in with clips, in typical Peugeot style. Start near the wiper base area and gently pull on one side towards you, till you hear one of the clips "pop."
3. Now work your way around the panel, gently pulling the clips out as you go. Eventually you will end up with the cover free. Place the cover out of the way, and where you won’t trip over it :-) Now you have complete access to the hatch area.

4. My finger is indicating one of the lamp assemblies. The other one is the same and is on the other side of the rear wiper assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector by squeezing in on the tab.
5. Now GENTLY squeeze the two tabs together slightly and wiggle it away from you. It is easily broken, & remember it comes out from the other side of the hatch.
6. When you have cleared the two tabs from the inside of the hatch, drop the hatch down slightly and simply withdraw the lamp assembly from hatch.

7. At this point you can simply replace the globe after removing the lens cover, but I found that that plastic was very fragile (possibly because it was a few years old) and the housing broke in half when I tried to remove the lens cover. Peugeot supply the whole assembly (including globe) relatively cheaply, so that’s what I did. I’ve since glued the broken one back together, but I’m not confident to use it as anything other than an emergency spare.
