The largest turn out for a WA cruise yet - 8 cars, with representation from
205, 206, and 406. After a lot of under bonnet checking (especially the
205Mi16) it was off to the first stop, the Margaret River Chocolate Factory
(and free samples).
At some point 2 drivers missed a set of lights and then drove past the first
stop point - despite a spirited chase by Ben on his motorcycle the 4 minute
gap they had, put them out of range - they were caught later (They thought
we'd gone ahead and tried to catch us all day :) - when really we were
behind.
It was in this section a Caravan and two other cars impeded the flow (well
they were going 40-50 kms under the speed limit), but with so many blind
corners and not many hand held CB's amongst us it was a while before
everyone could get safely past.
One pug on the bumpy section decided to drop it's spare wheel carrier
bracket. A lot of noise but nothing a bit of wire couldn't fix. We stopped
for a breather toward the end of the Chittering Valley Rd - a really nice
and twisty section - before heading towards Toodyay on Julimar Rd. Of
course there was the obligatory roof 'trick' by the 206cc owner - it had to
be done :)
The drive was over all to soon and a break for lunch bought all the cars
back to one place. The 406 coupe pilot probably looked the most relaxed and
why wouldn't he - it's a very nice car to be cruising in, while not as
nimble as the 205/206 brigade it certainly turned a few heads.
Next drive is scheduled for Mid July 2003. This time we are looking at a
combination drive - part navigation fun event and the rest the usual
cruisin', stay tuned for info.
