Jason and I took our Pugs (206GTi and 306Gti) up to MC Motorsport
on Sunday 16th for a test against the clock and some interesting cars.
And I must say the little GTi turned some heads with it's speed.
Cars it put to shame included ....
- 2.5 ltr Twin Turbo Supra.
- 180SX (Silvia). x2
- 200SX.
- Supercharged MR2.
- 300ZX.
- Turbo Laser.
- Mitsu FTO.
- Commodore SS
- VTEC Civic
Some of these were very very worked ... despite this I managed
to be 4th fastest on the day. Most of these were more then
2 seconds behind on their best runs !
There was 3 faster cars - a monster BMW 3 series (this guys also
holds about 5 course records), a Turbo Skyline worked to the max
running race slicks and a Twin Turbo 300ZX. I was only a second
down on the Skyline and TT300ZX and about 3 seconds on the
BMW.
All in all I'm extremely impressed what I was able to ring out
of the pug (and made some of the rice boys sit up and take
notice) - too bad I couldn't capture their reactions as I was
in the car at the time.
Now when it comes to the straight line and top end all of these
cars would have killed me ... but chuck in a Slalom or two (and
the ability to break so late into corners) the 206GTi was more
then holding it's own.
The GTi180 is going to be something to be reckoned with, the
the handling is anything like the GTi (and I'm assuming it's going
to be better) then it'd probably have been the second quickest
car on the day.
Jason's 306 GTi had it a little tougher ... with understeer, but
the pugs were the only two cars that would pick up the rear tyre
on some the high speed change of directions.
Will send photo's for MMC during the week. The WA crew should
consider a pure Pug session sometime in the future.
